Kiva.org is a great concept. They raise loans for people in less-developed countries who have no access to affordable bank loans like you and I do.
Businesses often need loans to order supplies and equipment and entrepreneurs often need loans to expand. We donate money to those business owners who do not have access to competitive banks. These are not really donations, though, as these business owners pay you back. Essentially, we become bankers but we don't expect a return. We donate just to help other people get ahead.
I believe this is the best leverage we can currently get for our money to help others. After your loan is repaid, you can immediately loan it out to another entrepreneur of your choice. You can donate a minimum of $25 and payback rates at Kiva as of this post is 97.1%.
If you have ever wanted to help others but don't have a lot of money to donate and want to get the best bang for your buck, consider donating to Kiva. You can browse around the site and choose who you would like the money to go to. I hope to expand and raise enough money to make many more loans. If you cannot donate any money right now, please help get the word out about Kiva by giving exposure to their site. Thank you!
